Representing Hindu Culture

Hindu YUVA represented Hindu culture in a multicultural night organized at Fellows elementary school in Ames. Around 120 kids of the age 4 years to 9 years visited it with their parents.

On our stall, we included lots of colorful photographs of various aspects of our culture such as festivals, famous temple architectures, classical musical instruments and iconic dance forms. We also exhibited some Indian jewellery, bindi, traditional Indian attires and Henna art. Children were very excited to learn about Hindu culture, particularly, our beautiful Jewellery and attires on display attracted them the most, to the extent that there were queues on our stall to get a picture in Indian attire with Bindi!

Experience of one of our team members, Pooja Singhal, in her own words:

“This was a wonderful event and inspiring experience for me. School Kids and their parents were showing genuine curiosity and enthusiasm towards Hindu culture when visiting our stall. One of the mom came to me and started telling her little daughter pointing towards my attire, ” look here.. This is the beautiful saree I told you about. That’s how it is worn!! See, how nice it is looking”. She was so happy to see me in Indian dress. When we were wrapping Indian dupattas around little girls, one mom commented, “this clothing looks so royal!”. Lot of them were enjoying taking photos with us. Little girls were so excited about colorful bindis and wanted to put it on. Their expressions were priceless and I never felt so good about wearing Indian clothes before. Girls were looking very pretty with kumkum on forehead and taking colorful dupatta on their dresses. We also showed them colorful pictures of Hindu festivals, dance forms etc. It was my first interaction with American kids and I really enjoyed it. It was a day which made me more proud about my Hindu identity.”
