Hindu Yuva at ISU celebrated Universal Oneness Day on September 1, 2018, with Ames Police department and ISU police yesterday. This celebration stems from the ancient Hindu festival of Rakshabandhan which is an opportunity to acknowledge and thank all those who protect us. The Hindu Yuva volunteers interacted with 7 ISU police officers in ISU library lawns today and introduced to them the concept of “Vasudeva kutumbakam”- Whole world’s is one family. We expressed our gratitude towards them for protecting us by tying Rakhis(Protection knot) and wishing that they be protected from all adversities. The officers welcomed our gesture and expressed that they would continue engaging with us as part of their diversity and inclusion initiatives.
Later in the day, we met with 9 officers of the Ames police at their headquarters. They took great interest in today’s ceremony and were excited to know more about the festival of Rakshabandhan, the significance of tilak and other aspects of Hindu culture. They appreciated our efforts to reach out to them and show our gratitude and conveyed that they are looking forward to collaborating with us on matters of diversity and inclusion.
