Activities

Hindu YUVA at ISU conducts various activities annually. Some of them include:

  • Festival Celebrations
India is one of the most diverse countries in the world when it comes to culture. The celebration of holidays and festivals, whether traditional or religious, has always been an important part of Hindu culture. Hindu YUVA takes pride in celebrating some major festivals such as Ganesh Utsav, Janmashtami, Dussehra, Diwali, Makar Sankranti, Shivratri etc. For more information on upcoming celebrations, please visit Upcoming Events page.
We understand that it may not be possible to plan each and every festival which is there in our culture. However, if you want to celebrate any of your festival and want us to facilitate the celebration, we would be pleased to do so.
  • Weekly Gathering (Shakha)
Hindu YUVA follows the unique process of character building by imparting sanskaras through a program called Shakha. It is typically a one hour long weekly program.  Activities are geared towards all round development and include yoga, games, martial arts, talks, discussions, presentations, songs and prayer. Please visit our page on Shakha for more details.
  • Speaker on Campus
Hindu YUVA invites a guest speaker in every semester to deliver a talk on some topic usually but not necessarily related to Hinduism. This special event is attended by students, faculty and staff from the university.
  • Volunteering and Service (Seva)
Volunteering and service is one of the most integral part of Hindu culture. Following the tradition, Hindu YUVA at ISU volunteers for different activities like organizing carpool rides to the local temple in Madrid (25 miles) on special festivals, helping with serving the prasadam (food) at the temple, and the subsequent cleaning.
We also try to send monetary help in case of any natural disaster which affects many people in our country India. Hindu YUVA at ISU sent more than $3400 for the flood affected areas in the north Indian state of Uttarakhand. Please visit our page, Service, for more details on these activities.
